About
K-BUS
Our History – Built on Experience
The history of K-BUS began in 1948 in Hornstein, where the Kutsenits family founded a bus company. What started as repairs and modifications quickly evolved into in-house vehicle development and eventually led to the construction of complete bus solutions.
In the 1980s, production of a minibus series began after Mercedes itself had discontinued production in the minibus segment (O 309). The first vehicles were initially used by municipal utilities and regional companies.
Starting in 1992, the product lineup for local public transit was expanded to include the first Citybus models, low-floor buses, and vehicles with alternative drive systems. A key milestone was the construction of the plant in Murska Sobota, Slovenia, where design, planning, and manufacturing are now centralized. Development and customer service continue to be handled in Austria.
Since the 1990s, community buses, city buses, and specialty vehicles have been developed for a variety of applications. These projects were implemented internationally from an early stage and carried out in numerous European cities.
K-BUS is also continuously advancing its technology in the field of alternative powertrains—from its first electric buses in 2011 to its latest vehicle concepts. Today, K-BUS vehicles are in service in numerous European countries.
In addition to standard solutions, custom projects are also part of our daily routine—such as all-wheel-drive buses for challenging regions or custom solutions based on established vehicle platforms.
Our development journey: We are committed to continuous improvement, practical solutions, and close collaboration with our customers—from the initial idea to the finished vehicle.
